Attendance FAQ’s

When does my child need to be in School?

All students are expected to be on school grounds by 8:30am

Ensure your child attends every day, on time, equipped and ready to learn. They can arrive between 7:45am and 8am (last entry) for Breakfast Club.

For all other students Pope St, student entrance opens at 8:15am and closes at 8:35am.

What happens if my child is late?

If your child arrives on or after 8:35am they will need to sign in via late gate at reception and will receive a 30-minute detention. If your child arrives on or after 9:05am they will receive a 60-minute detention for not being ‘Ready’ and breaking one of the rule of our clear Code of Conduct.

If your child is consistently late, you will be asked to attend a meeting at the school.

Respond to letters or telephone calls regarding attendance and punctuality.

What are the procedures for absence?

To report your child absent, call on 0121 729 7220, Option 2- Attendance and leave a message with the reason. Alternatively, you can email our attendance officer or enquiry.

You must do this for each day your child is absent.

Ensure the school has up to date addresses and two contact telephone numbers as well as an email address. We will contact you if your child is absent and you have not contacted the school. This ensures that any absence is quickly identified.

If no contact is received regarding the absence, it is recorded as unauthorised. Ultimately the school is responsible for deciding if the absence is acceptable or not. You will be asked to provide medical evidence if your child has a poor attendance record.

Only genuine absence will be authorised, avoid trivial absences such as, ‘buying new shoes.’ This would not be accepted as a reasonable absence.

What should I do if my child has a medical appointment? Are these appointments considered excused?

All appointments should be made, out of school hours. If this is unavoidable the school needs to be notified with evidence 24hrs/48hrs in advance.

Email [email protected] or call us on 0121 729 7220.

How can I track my child’s attendance?

You should download and activate the app Class Charts for parents; this is a great tool for you to monitor your child’s progress in school.

What are the transportation options for students?

Birmingham City Council may be able to offer your child a travel pass to get to school if they must walk further than the qualifying distance of 3 miles.

To apply visit Travel passes for 5 to 16 year olds | Apply for a child’s travel pass | Birmingham City Council

My child does not want to come to school. What should I do?

Contact your child’s Form Tutor, Year Group Coordinator or Head of Year if you are having trouble in getting your child into school.

Term Time Leave

To request a Term Time, Leave Form please email: [email protected] or visit our Reception. This form is to be used to request all types of leave for students. This will need to be returned including any supporting evidence.

Holidays should not be taken in school time. Any Leave of Absence can only be agreed by the Headteacher and only where there are exceptional circumstances
